She got me into all this......

 Hello, Hello, Hello!

Welcome to my W.E. Region 1 blog. I'm Heather Humelbaugh and I am your newly elected USA WE Region 1 Director. Firstly:

THANK YOU FOR  VOTING!

If you've landed here, it's because you have some sort of interest in, or acquaintance with the sport of Working Equitation, and you probably live in Region 1, or maybe you'd like to: It's the BEST region after all. 😄

Region 1 is comprised of the following States:

  • Alaska
  • Washington
  • Oregon
  • Idaho
  • Montana
I have now traveled to all of these states, except Alaska and I would LOVE to visit Alaska, in fact my sister is there right now visiting her son. It's cold there right now..very, very cold, but very, very beautiful, but I digress..

My purpose, in beginning this blog is to create a way to communicate with Region 1 USAWE members. I have a lot to learn about the governance piece of USAWE, and I bet you do too.

I figure that as I learn I can share, and as I communicate with you, I can share that BACK to the governing board. We can also utilize this space for sharing learning opportunities, resources, links and probably things I have not yet thought of..like pictures of horses...???

With any luck it will have some sort of organized structure so that you'll be able to find things you're specifically looking for (reader alert: organization is not my strongest skill set, full disclosure..sorry)..but maybe my love of this sport and desire to contribute to the learning for all of us will overcome my organizational shortcomings; after all optimism is what carries us through the obstacle course with some belief we'll get through without a DQ right? (Yup, heavily experienced at DQs here)..more about that later. Helpful hint; read the rules...yeah, not good at that either.

At any rate, here we are at the end of the 2021 competition year and ready to begin the 2022 season. Please let me know what you'd like to learn, see, find, or do that we can tackle together and/or I can help you with in my role as Region 1 Director.

Here are some helpful links to get you started if you're new to WE:

Thanks so much for being here, and for your interest in Working Equitation! As a conversation starter, I'd thought I'd share a list of the ways I've managed DQ myself while competing in W.E. maybe you can share your experiences too?

Ways I have DQ'd

  • Backed out of the move a cup, instead of continuing through it
  • Turned left first around the figure 8 (instead of right..figure 8 is ALWAYS right first)
  • Did not finish the 3rd barrel completely on the drums..ahem.. (x2)
  • Forgot the last obstacle (it was the jump..and cost me a bronze medal opportunity and there is a video of me getting sworn at)
  • Put the cup on the wrong side of the backing through the poles obstacle
  • Moved/touched an obstacle with the wrong hand..can't remember the obstacle, but now I carry my whip in my left hand as a reminder
I'm sure there's more, because I have a great memory, but it's short.

Let me know what you've DQ'd for and I'll see you on the next post!

Go Region 1!!
